Proposal for a Performance Sailing Group

Nothing is more fun than going sailing and feeling competent, knowledgeable, skilled, and to be sailing as part of a proficient crew. The only way to get there is to study and practice, sailing with people who are like minded and committed.

With this goal in mind, I would like to get a group of people together who are committed to improving their sailing skills. To reach this goal, we would:

  • Sail as a team at least twice a month (more people – more teams)
  • Practice all positions on the boat to become proficient in them all
  • Develop teamwork so all maneuvers are carried out efficiently
  • Systematically improve in all sailing regimes by pooling knowledge and skills on topics such as:
    • Close-hauled for speed
    • Maximizing downwind performance
    • Sail trim – the jib
    • Sail trim – the main
    • Sail trim – the spinnaker
    • Tacking
    • Gybing
    • Spinnaker sets and take downs
    • The racing rules
    • Racing starts
    • Others? And there a lot of possibilities!

Each time out we would have a very specific topic and goal for that day. Although it is not intended to turn fun into work, attaining proficiency always requires some discipline of effort.

If you interested in an activity such as this, with sailors of like mind, please contact me. (Kirkland location)
